Kanpur: The All India Chess Federation (AICF) has reasserted its dominance and won the “Most Active Federation” award at the Asian Chess Federation’s annual event in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates). AICF President Sanjay Kapoor accepted the award on Wednesday.
Speaking at the meeting, Kapoor said that the past 12 months of chess have been extraordinary in India. As the President of the AICF, it is a proud moment for him to lead the chess revolution from the front. “I feel proud when I witness the great performance of Indian players in tournaments held around the world”. India has won multiple awards at the Asian Chess Excellence Awards 2023.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin successfully organized the 44th Chess Olympiad in Mahabalipuram in four months and was awarded the Person of the Year Award for his invaluable contribution. Master D Gukesh was awarded the Player of the Year award after winning the first-place gold medal in the Olympiad.
The Olympic women’s team bronze medalist was declared the best women’s team consisting of Koneru Humpy, D Harika, R Vaishali, Tania Sachdeva and Bhakti Kulkarni. Master RB Ramesh was declared Coach of the Year and Abhijit Kunte was awarded the title of Women’s Coach of the Year. Lions master Luke Medoca was named best junior player for his first-place performance at the World Junior Championships. Ilamparithi AR was awarded the Young Player of the Year award.
