September 9 (UPI) – Amazon The e-commerce giant confirmed on Friday that it is acquiring Cloostermans, a Belgian warehouse technology producer.

Cloostermans will be part of Amazon Robotics, a division of the company focused on automating parts of its warehouse operations, Amazon said in a statement. It did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.

Founded in 1884, Cloostermans has been a private company for six generations. It builds custom robots for use in warehouses.

“The machine is designed to order. All project aspects can be supplied in-house: mechanical and electrical engineering, fabrication, assembly as well as integration and testing,” The company said on its website.

Amazon Robotics was founded in 2012 when its parent company Company acquisition and integration Massachusetts-based robotics maker Kiva Systems. The deal cost $775 million.

The company expects the acquisition of Cloostermans to make its operations safer, simpler and more efficient.

Amazon opened its European Operations Innovation Lab in May 2021 to develop “advanced technologies that support safer ways of working”.

Around 200 Cloostermans employees will join the company’s growing business in Europe.

“Amazon’s investments in robotics and technology are supporting how we can build a better, safer workplace for our employees and serve our customers,” Ian Simpson, Amazon’s vice president of global robotics, said in a statement. .”

“As we continue to expand and accelerate the robotics and technologies we design, engineer and deploy in our operations, we look forward to welcoming Cloostermans to Amazon and excited to see what we can build together.”
