Spending in this year’s midterm elections is expected to hit a new record as the cost of the contested Senate race is the highest.
The two most expensive elections in 2022 are Senate seats in Georgia and Pennsylvania, according to the Open Secrets website.
Republicans are currently spending much more than Democrats, by about 5 percent, the study said. More money went to Democrats in the most recent midterm elections in 2018.
Former Lieutenant Governor John Fettman will face off with former Trump-backed talk show personality Mohamed Oz in the fight for an open seat in Pennsylvania.
Herschel Walker, a former Trump administration appointee, is competing against Raphael Warnock, the current incumbent, who was elected to the Senate in a special election in 2021.
Of particular note in the Fetterman vs. Oz game is the amount of outside funding, which accounted for 61% of all payouts for the game.

In Warnock’s match against Herschel, only 55% of the total payout came from outside funding.
The six most expensive races this year are all against the Senate, and the only one in the Cook Political Report that didn’t rate it as a toss was the one in Ohio.
Another spending record is projected at the state level, where Republicans are expected to outspend Democrats (57% to 43%).
