Anthony Ramos, Dane DeHaan and Vincent D’Onofrio have starred in Dumb Money.
The trio joins a comedy troupe that includes Pete Davidson, Paul Dano, Seth Rogen and Sebastian Stan.
The film focuses on the “squeeze out” movement around the video game retail chain GameStop in January 2021. The incident saw users of the Reddit page “Wall Street Bet” come together to increase the value of the company’s stock, which has suffered from a share price lag for years.
The situation has resulted in significant financial losses for major hedge funds and independent short sellers and sparked calls for more regulation of the stock market.
The film puts the spotlight on the Reddit user behind the squeeze, and main photography for the project is underway.
The Craig Gillespie-directed film is based on Ben Mezrich’s book The Social Network. Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum are adapting the story for the big screen.
Anthony is set to star in the movie Transformers: The Rise of the Beast and has decided to challenge himself by joining the cast after appearing in musical films such as Hamilton and Highland.
“It’s easy to say, ‘Oh, he’s the guy who can sing and dance,’ or ‘Anyway, he can make music,'” said the 30-year-old actor.
“I guess I have to challenge myself, right? In Treatment is very different from In The Heights, and Transformers is very different.”
Ramos explained that whenever he takes on a new role, he feels the need to keep proving himself.
He said: “I think for me, before I say yes to anything, I have a conversation with myself and it takes me a long time to decide what to do, especially in my work, because it’s very important to me. Too hard to say, especially in Puerto Rican and from the hood. I’ve had everything going against me, right?
“So it’s like, now I’m saying to myself, ‘How can I continue to prove myself to the world, but to prove to myself, ‘Hey, you can do it. You can do it. And you can do it. You can do it. to this point.'”
