Arabia Taxi – Dubai, a subsidiary of Economic Group Holdings, has announced the signing of an exclusive agreement with Tesla Motors – Dubai to add 269 Model 3 Tesla vehicles to the Dubai taxi fleet in April.
The move is in line with Dubai Roads and Transport Authority’s strategy to convert taxis in Dubai (Dubai Taxi and Franchises) to 100% environmentally friendly (hybrid, electric and hydrogen) vehicles by 2027.
Economic Group has the largest fleet of private taxis in the UAE. Its fleet includes approximately 6,000 taxis. These new 269 vehicles represent a quantum leap in the transition of the company’s fleet to an all-electric and carbon-free fleet.
In this context, Sheikh Majid bin Hamad Al Qasimi, chairman of the board of directors of The Economic Group, said that the company has made significant progress in this area, with 83 percent of the cars in the Dubai fleet now using environmentally friendly hybrid engine technology.
“The company is developing a strategic plan to convert its remaining vehicles to all-electric vehicles and is considering the possibility of using hydrogen-powered vehicles in the future. It looks forward to expanding its cooperation with Tesla and various electric vehicle manufacturers for its Customers are offered a diverse range of sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation options,” Al Qasimi added.
“The company aspires to play a leading role in driving the transformation of the public and private transport sector towards sustainable development, reducing the environmental impact of business activities in the UAE and across the region.”
Ahmed Bahrozyan, Chief Executive Officer, Public Transport Agency, Roads and Transport Authority, said: “This step confirms Arabia Taxi’s efforts to transform the direction of our wise leadership, rationalize energy use in the UAE and create a safe, clean and sustainable environment , to achieve the level of reputation and prestige of the Emirate of Dubai, and to advance the Dubai government’s initiative to introduce green vehicles to create a cleaner environment.”
Bahrozyan emphasized the importance of the authorities working together with the concessionaires to improve the electric transport infrastructure in the emirate of Dubai, noting that this fruitful collaboration will help achieve the desired goal and convert 100% of the taxi fleet to eco-friendly vehicles by 2027 Year.
