“Blue Eye’d Hag” performance on GV

On October 15th, West Michigan-based touring company Dove Shakespeare Company will make their world premiere”blue eyed niggaby Jim Lear Bear. As part of the Grand Canyon Shakespeare Festival, the performance will take place in the Pere Marquette Hall at the Kirkhof Center on the Allendale campus of Grand Canyon State University.

The play serves as a prequel to The Tempest, but executive director Catherine Mayberry said audiences don’t have to know Shakespeare to understand and appreciate the performance.

The story in “Blue Eye’d Hag” begins with warring kingdoms that will be united through the marriage of a prince and princess. As the wedding events begin, an unknown and mysterious woman and her child arrive, leading to more chaos.

This performance is free and open to the public.

Grand Rapids Ballet Performance

Grand Rapids Ballet will present three ballets in their performance entitled “elemental movement“October 14-16 at the Peter Martin Weig Theater in downtown Grand Rapids.

Ballet productions include “Brubek Elements” choreographed by modern dancer Lar Lubovitch, tThe world premiere of “Liar Lear King” will also be choreographed by Danielle Rowe in collaboration with the New York City-based Satellite Collective. A reenactment of “Off the Canvas” originally performed by Katarzyna Skarpetowska for the company’s 2021-2022 season.

Tickets can be purchased online, starting at $40 each, and must be booked in advance. Plus, there’s a free family matinee on October 15th at 2:30pm. The performance is designed to introduce ballet to a young audience.

GV music show performance

this week GVSU Department of Music, Theatre and Dance Performances are being held for the “Octubafest” concert and the Jazz Orchestra concert.

Two Octubafest concerts will be held October 12-14 at 7:30 pm in the Sherman Van Solkema Recital Hall at the Haas Center for the Performing Arts. The performance features tuba solo, tenor solo and chamber music.

In addition, a Jazz Ensemble concert will be held at the Linn Maxwell Keller Black Box Theater at the Haas Center for the Performing Arts at 7:30 pm on October 13th. This event is free and open to the public.
