Audi Abu Dhabi survey finds nearly 30% of UAE residents ignore car safety checks during summer

[ad_1]

Abu Dhabi: – According to a recent survey, up to 28% of UAE residents do not have their cars checked during the summer. The oversight has sparked concern as temperatures in the country soared to 50C, with authorities and automakers strongly advising car owners to carry out car safety checks ahead of summer to ensure optimal vehicle performance and passenger safety. Audi Abu Dhabi has launched a new survey to understand the vehicle safety of UAE drivers during the difficult summer season.

The survey found that of the 70 percent who prioritize car safety inspections, 35 percent choose to book service from a car dealership, followed by 21 percent who choose independent garages and 14 percent who rely on quick service at gas stations.

Responding to the findings, Jeff Stagg, Aftermarket Manager at Ali & Sons Motors in Abu Dhabi, emphasized the critical importance of having cars properly serviced before summer, saying: “Motors are exposed to the most demanding conditions in the Middle East during summer. Smooth operation in high temperatures, engine and air conditioning system service is highly recommended, and tires checked, as the risk of tire blowouts increases in hot weather conditions.

Another worrying statistic from the survey showed that 8% of drivers were unsure of the appropriate action to take when faced with a car overheating. Notably, 11% of those unsure were in the 18-24 age group, with 4% of this age group admitting they would panic and call emergency services (999).

Thomas Edelmann, Founder and Managing Director, RoadSafetyUAE, added: “Summer vehicle maintenance is also crucial to preventing vehicle fires. Vehicle fires are literally a pressing issue in the UAE, especially during the hot summer months. The MOI report says , 1,134 traffic fires occurred in 2022, of which 808 (71%) occurred in passenger cars. Research shows that most vehicle fires are caused by poor maintenance, mechanical or Your repair shop checks the vehicle for fluid leaks, cracked or blistered hoses, and worn wires and insulation.”

When asked about basic items that should be included in a summer vehicle health checklist, respondents ranked air conditioning efficiency as a top priority (68%). Additionally, 58% of respondents emphasized the importance of checking the condition of tires, while 57% emphasized the need to check coolant system efficiency and possible leaks.

Audi Abu Dhabi and RoadSafetyUAE urge drivers to follow these basic tips to ensure car safety and the well-being of drivers and passengers throughout the summer:

1. Make sure to take care of your car this summer! It is best to work with an authorized dealer as they know your car best.

2. Perform regular pre-drive vehicle inspections (coolant and all fluid levels; tire pressure and condition)

3. Provide roadside assistance contact details in case of breakdown
