Baldwin charges dropped
Baldwin was charged with two counts of manslaughter in October 2021 after he shot and killed Hutchins with a gun he held on the set of the movie. The film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, still faces charges of involuntary manslaughter.
Lawyers for the weapons handler want her charges also dropped.
Cleopatra’s Hippodrome
Netflix is gearing up to tell the story of Queen Cleopatra of Egypt, but it’s not arriving on the platform without controversy.
An Egyptian lawyer files a lawsuit against Netflix over its upcoming documentary Queen of Africa: Cleopatra breached its media laws, saying the project was actively involved in erasing the Queen from history.
At issue is the complexion of the actress who played Cleopatra, Adele James, a mixed-race British woman who has become the focus of a racist opposition. The document and social media comments claimed that Cleopatra was “light-skinned, not black” and attempted to block the entirety of Netflix in Egypt.
The legendary Egyptian queen was born in Alexandria around 70 BC, the daughter of the Macedonian general Ptolemy XII, but her mother’s lineage remains unclear and some experts suspect she may be of African descent.
Surprise at Coachella
When Frank Ocean revolutionized his stage last weekend, his return to the stage was deemed by many to be underwhelming, and the backlash that followed has raised questions about his second weekend of headlines. However, Ocean withdrew from the show earlier this week, citing injuries he sustained at the festival grounds ahead of his debut performance. There was speculation that the recently reunited Blink 182 would be used to replace him after a successful first weekend performance at the festival, but those reports were quickly shut down.
Instead, a surprise performer will fill Ocean’s slot, which is scheduled to begin Saturday at 10:45 PDT.
