Bangladesh Fuel Price Hike: Diesel and Petrol Prices Rise by Up to 17.4%
Bangladesh has introduced a new Bangladesh fuel price hike, raising the prices of diesel, petrol, octane and kerosene by Tk20 per litre from September 21.
The increase comes as global oil prices and shipping costs remain high because of the ongoing Middle East conflict. The government says the move is needed to reduce losses from rising fuel import costs.
Diesel recorded the biggest percentage increase, rising 17.4% from Tk115 to Tk135 per litre. Octane increased from Tk145 to Tk165, while petrol rose from Tk140 to Tk160 per litre. Kerosene also increased from Tk135 to Tk155 per litre.
The latest Bangladesh fuel price hike is expected to affect transportation and production costs across the country. Businesses that rely heavily on fuel could face higher operating expenses, while consumers may see the impact through transport and other prices.
Bangladesh’s Energy Ministry said international fuel prices have more than doubled since March 2026. Freight costs have also increased because of regional instability.
The Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation recorded losses of about Tk228.76 billion between March and August, according to the ministry. Officials expect the latest price adjustment to reduce annual losses by around Tk100 billion.
The increase also comes as Bangladesh’s industries face energy shortages. Export-focused sectors, including garments, could face additional pressure from higher transportation and production costs.
The government has raised fuel prices several times this year as it responds to higher international energy costs. The latest adjustment shows how global oil market disruptions are continuing to affect fuel prices and businesses in South Asia.
