BAPS Hindu Mandir hosts ambassadors in UAE

BAPS Hindu Mandir together with Indian Embassy in UAE hosted a reception for over 30 ambassadors celebrating the vision of tolerance and harmony in the UAE and India.

Abu Dhabi: In a show of solidarity and mutual respect, ambassadors from more than 30 countries gathered at BAPS Hindu Temple Abu Dhabi. The purpose of the visit was to promote intercultural understanding and witness the development of the first traditional Hindu temple in the region. Set on a sprawling 27-acre site, this majestic stone shrine and cultural complex embodies the universal values ​​of tolerance and harmony.

Insightful visits provided ambassadors with a comprehensive overview of the temple’s historical significance, construction process, and anticipated impact through engaging video presentations and personal experiences.

Mr. Ashok Kotecha, Mr. Yogesh Mehta, Mr. Chirag Patel, Mr. Pranav Desai along with dedicated directors and volunteers who oversee the construction of the mandir warmly welcomed more than 85 distinguished guests. The dignitaries were all garlanded and greeted with traditional sacred thread ties, a revered Hindu gesture that symbolizes friendship and goodwill.

His Excellency Sunjay Sudhir, Ambassador of India to the UAE, highlighted the longstanding friendship between India and the UAE rooted in history, culture and trade. He went on to praise the tolerance and generosity of the UAE leadership, adding: “This mandir represents the collective faith aspirations of the vast Indian community residing in the UAE, especially the BAPS saints and volunteers who tirelessly and selflessly serve the Build this sanctuary of tolerance and harmony.”

Through a video presentation, Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar shared his hopes for what Mandir will mean for the UAE and the world, and his deep respect for the vision and direction of the UAE leadership. He emphasized that one of the most moving and fulfilling moments of his life was announcing and now seeing the arrival of BAPS Hindu Mandir. He further added that “real change is when different cultures connect and respect equality and fairness”.

In his speech, Swami Brahmaviharidas warmly welcomed the ambassadors, saying that the presence of the Diplomatic Brotherhood and its families was a testament to the unifying power of faith and culture.

After an initial introduction, guests begin a guided tour, sprinkled with flowers on the bricks used to build the mandir. Guests marveled at the exquisite carvings and exquisite designs, which embody the timeless values ​​of India and ancient civilizations. Many are surprised to learn that stories from Arabian, Mayan, Greek and other cultures that encourage peace, tolerance and harmony have been inscribed into the stone on the temple’s facade. To ensure the longevity of the mandir, skilled artisans from India crafted the artwork without any steel bars and pieced them together like giant stone puzzles.

His Excellency Dr. Richard Kay, Ambassador of New Zealand, expressed his deep delight in light of the visit, saying: “The mandir – a cultural asset will grace the UAE’s skyline.”

Similarly, His Excellency Ambassador Arata Isozaki, Ambassador of Japan, was also very moved by his visit. He expressed his wonder, saying: “I am overwhelmed by Indian craftsmanship. I see a philosophy of tolerance in carving.”

In order to thank and cherish this unforgettable visit, each distinguished ambassador received a beautifully crafted miniature model of the shrine.

Opening in less than a year, BAPS Hindu Mandir is ready to add a new landmark to Abu Dhabi’s renowned collection of culture, art and value – from the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque to the Louvre and Guggenheim.

The visit of the ambassadors is an important step in promoting peace, fostering cultural interaction and strengthening diplomatic relations between the participating countries and the United Arab Emirates.
