City Council approved a conditional use permit to build a bar and nightclub with live entertainment for the Sojourn Fermentory, planned for 1400 Bridgeport Way, Suite 103.
The action follows a public hearing at a council meeting in Town Hall Council Chambers on Wednesday, June 21. The planning committee voted 7-1 at its May 16 meeting to recommend approval of the application.
Planning and development director Kevin Wyne said the floor will feature a stage for live band performances in an adjacent seating area.
“This is combined with the use of the restaurant brewery, which is licensed within the zoning and will take up existing building space. The suite has a total area of 9,248 square feet,” Wyne said during the meeting. “Live entertainment will only be permitted indoors, with standard hours limited to 10pm on weekdays and 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Applicants will be allowed six special events per year, which can extend until midnight.”
During public hearings, no one opposed the ordinance.
Suffolk citizen Tom Wren said he supported the conditional use permit, saying it was “a great thing for Suffolk”.
“Apart from the nightclub, I just want to say that I am very impressed with the way this multi-purpose facility has been developed,” Wren said at the hearing. “I live nearby, not in this facility, but I think it’s a great blueprint for what we should be thinking about when developing these kinds of communities.”
Councilor Roger Fawcett supported the ordinance and its conditions, and said the Bridgeport plant was a “vibrant, well-run facility” with many amenities.
“It will bring additional convenience to the north end, which I think is a great project,” Fawcett said.
City Council voted 8-0 to approve a conditional use permit ordinance.
