Mixed martial arts fans should keep an eye on the International Fighting Pad Caitlin and Bayliam van Wyk.
The young martial artist siblings recently competed at the 2022 South African Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Youth Mixed Martial Arts World Championships in Abu Dhabi on August 18.
Kaitlyn competed in the Women’s Under 57kg Junior B race, while Bayliam competed in the Men’s Under 37kg Junior C race.
They both fought hard, with Caitlin earning a bronze medal for herself and Beliam finishing fifth in the world.
When asked what his favorite memory was from the trip, Beliam laughed as he told the story of how he, his sister and his father rode the fastest roller coaster in the world.
On the mat, his favourite moment was his chance to carry the South African flag on his back after the final game.
“It made me feel invincible,” he said.
For Caitlin, the most fun memory of the trip also included the roller coaster.
“When we got off a roller coaster, my dad said the ride was one of the worst decisions of his life,” she said with a laugh.
However, her favorite moments of the game were more serious.
“In the game against Ireland, I was very motivated. When they put the South African flag on me and raised my arm as the winner, it felt great. The fight also showed me what I can train and improve on. field,” she said.
Their father, Andri van Wyk, looked proud as he spoke of their Abu Dhabi adventure.
“This is the first time my children have played on such a big stage. We have received an incredible amount of support from South Africa. I am very proud as a parent when parents from other countries say South African children are polite. exist mixed martial arts, you don’t just get a medal. You have to work for it. During the game, Caitlin injured her arm and kept telling me she wanted and was going to fight,” Andry said.
The race in Abu Dhabi is one of many for these siblings, as they will also compete in other races in September.
Opponents of these siblings should enter the battle pad cautiously, as nothing can stop them from their championship run.
