Authorities said they were looking for a Northern California sheriff’s deputy implicated in the killing of two people earlier Wednesday. Hours after the bloodshed, he remains at large.
Law enforcement officials said they were looking for Devin Williams Jr., a deputy in the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office. He was considered armed and dangerous.
Williams allegedly shot and killed the couple early Wednesday in Dublin, California, before driving away. The names of the two victims were not immediately released, and they were pronounced dead at the scene.
Around 12:45 a.m., police were called to a home in Dublin — a city on the East Bay about 35 miles (56 kilometers) from downtown San Francisco. a car.
Witnesses identified the shooter as 24-year-old Williams of Stockton. The sheriff’s office said he was off work at the time of the shooting.
Williams is thought to be driving a grey 2007 Volkswagen Jetta or 2015 Hyundai. Both have California license plates.
Dublin police called the killing a “horrific crime” on Twitter, saying Williams was no longer believed to be at the site of the shooting. Anyone who spotted Williams was asked to call 911 and not approach him.
Other details were not immediately provided. Authorities plan to hold a news conference later in the morning to discuss the case.
The Alameda County Deputy Sheriffs Association, a union representing rank-and-file representatives, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
