Careem, a leading everything app, has invested in engineering hubs in Pakistan, Jordan and Egypt with dozens of open engineering jobs in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Amman, Cairo and Alexandria.
More than 600 technology professionals are already working in Careem’s engineering centers to build technology that powers Careem’s super app services across the region, with 55% of Careem’s engineering organizations located in Pakistan, Jordan and Egypt. Careem also has engineers in the UAE and Germany.
Open positions at Careem’s engineering centers in Pakistan, Jordan and Egypt include front-end, back-end and full-stack engineering, web engineering, mobile engineering (IOS and Android), data and artificial intelligence, and infrastructure engineering. Since the beginning of 2023, Careem has hired for nearly 80 technology-focused positions in Pakistan, Jordan and Egypt.
Territorial issues in real life
Careem’s engineering leaders apply experience from leading global technology companies to solve real-life regional problems and build innovative products in super-app platform services including Careem Rides, Careem Food, Careem Quik, Careem Pay and partner services .
Stephen Kruger, CTO of Careem, commented: “Since Careem was founded, hundreds of technology professionals have played a role in building the region’s first marketplace platform and driving the region into a digital future. Universities in Pakistan, Jordan and Egypt each year About 90,000 software engineers graduate, but only a handful of regional mid-sized tech companies are available for these graduates to join.
“This lack of opportunity can lead to a ‘brain drain’ from the region that Careem is working to prevent and reverse. We feel we have a responsibility to drive progress in the region by building an enduring institution that can serve Meaningful opportunities for the region’s most talented people.”
multiple opportunities
Selim Turki, Senior Director of Engineering at Careem, said: “Our engineering team is growing rapidly, and there are exciting opportunities for tech minds in Pakistan, Jordan and Egypt to join Careem’s ambitious journey. Our first line of code was written in Pakistan Yes, Careem has proven for over a decade that it is possible to build globally competitive technology in our region.
“Now, we are creating more opportunities for talented engineers in Pakistan, Jordan and Egypt to help us build the next generation of technology. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about our purpose of simplifying and improving people’s lives and driving progress across the region. “
Careem collaborates with regional and global academic institutions to conduct research on previously unsolved regional challenges to help accelerate economic development in the region. Recently, Careem, in collaboration with Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), launched STEF-DHNet, a demand forecasting model combining convolutional neural network (CNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM), which integrates external features into spatiotemporal information and capture their impact on ride demand.
Careem’s Next Generation program provides valuable study and employment prospects for young, aspiring engineers across the region. Next Generation Engineers collaborate with the most senior technical experts in the organization and gain hands-on experience addressing real-world challenges through an embedded technology training program that utilizes state-of-the-art resources and cutting-edge technology.
