ABU DHABI, May 7 (PTI) — India’s Om Prakash Chouhan, whose European Challenge Tour win in March showed he is one to watch, shot a 66 in Sunday’s event, a low. A score of 6 on par. The UAE challenge is here.
His round included a superb eagle on par-4 14. Chauhan’s 66 lifted him from a tie for 33rd to a tie for ninth overnight, his second top-10 finish on the European Challenge Tour.
Germany’s Maximilian Rottcluff was on the mend when night leader Manuel Elvira shot an uncharacteristically 80-under-par 8-over at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club. ) (70) rose from second place overnight to win the title, while KGA Challenge winner Ugo Cussaud shot a final-round 5-under 67 for a total under Par 13.
Chouhan was knocked out of the KGA Challenge after winning the inaugural Duncan Taylor Black Bull Challenge in Bengaluru, but he and his partner Cole Madey enjoyed a good day as they set each other up in the first counting match of 2023. Both shot 66s and tied for ninth.
For Chouhan, it’s a return to the top 10 on the road to the Mallorca rankings, where he is now ninth. The top 20 finishers will qualify for next year’s DP World Tour.
Chouhan is also high in India’s PGTI Order of Merit and if he stays there he will also get a DPWT card.
Zhou Han started on the 10th hole, birdied the 11th hole, made an eagle on the par-4 14th hole, and made further progress on the 16th and 18th holes, shooting 5 under par. He dropped the ball on the third hole but birdied the fifth and ninth holes for a 66.
Rottluff plucked up his nerve to claim his first European Challenge Tour victory at the UAE Challenge. The German, playing his first Challenge Tour event of the season, shot a round 70 at 14 under, one shot ahead of No. 1 Ugo Coussaud of Mallorca. PTI Cor AH AH
