Chris Rock is going where comedians have never been — live on Netflix.
The streaming giant said Thursday that Rock will be the first artist to perform at the company’s first live global streaming event.
The comedy special will air in early 2023, but few other details have been revealed.
“Chris Rock is one of the most iconic and important comedy voices of our generation,” Robbie Plow, vice president of stand-up and comedy formats at Netflix, said in a statement.
“We’re thrilled that the world can experience a live Chris Rock comedy event and be part of Netflix’s history.
“It will be an unforgettable moment and we are honored that Chris will carry the torch.”
This will be the first major test of live streaming on Netflix and could open the door for other shows to get the live treatment.
This will be Rock’s second Netflix stand-up special. His first feature, Chris Rock: Tamborine, debuted in February 2018.
