Chris Rock will be the first comedian to perform live on Netflix.
The 57-year-old star is set to make history in 2023 with an as-yet-untitled comedy special.
“Chris Rock is one of the most iconic and important comedians of our generation,” said Robbie Praw, vice president of stand-up comedy at Netflix.
“We are thrilled that the world will be able to experience the live Chris Rock comedy event and become part of Netflix’s history. It will be an unforgettable moment and we are honored that Chris will carry the torch.”
Chris previously teamed up with Netflix in 2018, when his stand-up special, Chris Rock: Tambourine, aired on the streaming platform.
Meanwhile, Chris had an infamous stage clash with Will Smith at the Oscars earlier this year.
The 54-year-old actor slapped Will’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith after joking about him, and the Hollywood star then described his behavior at the Oscars as “shocking, painful and inexcusable” .
Will – who has been married to Jada since 1997 – said in a statement: “My actions at the 94th Academy Awards are appalling, painful and inexcusable.
“The list of people I hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those present, and the global audience at home. I betrayed the trust of the Academy. I deprived others of Nominees and winners have the opportunity to celebrate and be celebrated for their extraordinary work.
“I am heartbroken. I want to refocus on those deserving of attention for their achievements and bring the Academy back to the incredible work it does to support the creativity and artistry of film .”
