‘Christmas Circus’ checks in on El Dorado’s Little Rock

“Madness on Ice”

El Dorado’s Murphy Arts District is turning the stage of its outdoor amphitheater into an ice rink and bringing back “Madness on Ice” Saturday to January. 2. Tickets are $14, unlimited skating per day. Skate rentals are $3, children’s sizes 8 through men’s sizes 15. Season passes, which offer unlimited skate time and skate rentals, are $85, or $145 for two. The pay-as-you-go punch card offers a free 10th skate after nine paid skates. Skate helpers/”helpers” Bobby the Seal and Tommy the Reindeer are $5 per 90 minutes. Helmets will be provided free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis.

Each skater and spectator must complete a waiver, which is available in advance online, along with skating hours of operation, at eldomad.com/madonice.

A holiday market of food trucks and local vendors will be located in the heart of the North Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau, the fifth of the North Little Rock and Argenta Downtown Council Northern Lights Festival Celebration, Saturday 4-8:30 pm at Argenta Plaza, 510 Main Street, North Little Rock. Chris Kennedy, owner of Black Santa ARK LLC, plays Santa; “Santa’s Workshop” has free children’s holiday activities from 4-7:30 pm; families can take photos with Santa and the 38-foot-tall Christmas tree. Local musicians and Santa will perform live at 5:30 p.m. lighting ceremony and Sherwood’s 2022 Trail of Light in the Magic Forest Doors open at 6pm on Fridays. Entrance is at the Sherwood Sports Complex parking lot, just past the Henson Tennis Center Drive, 420 Dee Jay Hudson Drive at Arkansas 107. The drive-in trail will be open from 6pm to 9:30pm until December 30th. Gavin Woodland Gardens, 550 Arkridge Road, Hot Springs, will have a nightly holiday light show Saturday through December 4th to 9pm. 31 (closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas). El Dorado’s Annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony Today at 5:30 p.m. East of the Union County Courthouse, 101 N. Washington Ave., with dance and music, and Santa, who will be the honorary switch thrower and will provide photos. University of Arkansas Little Rock Orchestra, with the UALR Jazz Orchestra and Concert Choir, will perform today at 6:30 pm in Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall, UALR Fine Arts Building, 2801 S. University Ave., Little Rock. The Wind Ensemble will perform “English Folk Song Suite” by Ralph Vaughn Williams. Pastels by more than two dozen regional artists serve as Arkansas Pastel Society Jury Member Exhibit, Third Friday Art Walk Reception Friday from 5-8 p.m. in the galleries of the Argenta Library, 420 Main Street, North Little Rock. “Therapy” Works

Agency gallery, 413A Main St., North Little Rock, featuring artists from Birch Tree community members with serious mental illness across the state at the Argenta Third Friday Art Walk reception, 5-8 p.m. The exhibition will run until December 10th. All proceeds from the sale of the artwork will go directly to the artist. The Arkansas Central Library System holds its final 2022 Friends of CALS Used Book Sale, Friday 10am-6pm and Saturday 10am-4pm in the basement of the system’s main library, 100 Rock St., Little Rock. Friends of CALS members can shop early. There’s also 50% off “lightly read” books today from 5pm to 7pm and today from 10am to 5pm at the Gallery and Bookstore in Library Square.
