Clark Atlanta University cancels student balances for the 2020-2021 academic year

TSR Education: Clark Atlanta University announced that it will cancel student account balances for the past five semesters, becoming the latest HBCU to cancel student debt in recent months.

In the press release, CAU stated that it will use federal funds received from the CARES Act Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund to provide financial relief to students in the past two years.

The fund was created when the CARES Act, which became law, was signed last year.

In April, the US Department of Education stated that HBCU would receive US$5 billion from the Emergency Relief Fund for Higher Education.

CAU has now joined several HBCUs that have developed plans to help eliminate student loan debt after the pandemic.

Earlier this month, South Carolina State University stated that it would repay $9.8 million in student debt for “more than 2,500 current students.”

“We are committed to providing these students with a clear path forward so that they can continue to receive university education and graduate without being burdened by financial debts due to uncontrollable circumstances,” SCSU Acting President Alexander Conyers (Alexander Conyers) Conyers) said.

According to CNN, Delaware State University said in May that it would cancel the loan of more than $700,000 for recent graduates, and Shaw University of North Carolina said it would pay summer tuition for more than 400 students.
