Clean energy accounts for 14% of Dubai’s total power generation capacity

[ad_1]

Dubai has a clean energy production capacity of 2,027 megawatts (MW), using photovoltaic solar power (PV) and concentrated solar power (CSP). This represents approximately 14% of Dubai’s total electricity generation capacity of 14,517 MW.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa), said this during a visit to the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is being implemented in Dewa, according to a report by WAM. . This is the world’s largest single-site solar park using the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. It will have a production capacity of 5,000 MW by 2030, using photovoltaic solar panels and CSP technology.

Al Tayer inspected the progress of work on the park’s fourth phase, where 417MW has been connected to Dewa’s grid. This includes 217MW from photovoltaic solar panels and 200MW from CSPs using parabolic basins. The fourth phase of the solar park is 92% complete. Al Tayer met Dewa’s Emirati employees who were trained on the solar park’s Phase 4 clean energy project. This phase is implemented by Noor Energy 1. Dewa owns 51 percent of the company, ACWA Power 25 percent and Silk Road Fund 24 percent.

fifth stage

Al Tayer also inspected the fifth phase of the solar park in Dewa, which has already connected 600MW to the grid. The fifth phase has a total installed capacity of 900 MW and an investment of AED 2.058 billion (US$ 560 million). 52.9% of the third phase of the fifth phase of the 300MW project has been completed and will be put into operation in 2023.

It uses the latest solar photovoltaic bifacial technology and single-axis tracking to increase energy production. It will provide clean energy to more than 270,000 residences in Dubai and reduce carbon emissions by 1.18 million tons per year.

“We work in line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to promote sustainability and the transition to a sustainable green economy. We This is achieved through energy diversification and increasing the share of renewable and clean energy in Dubai’s energy mix. This achieves the Dubai 2050 Clean Energy Strategy and the Dubai 2050 Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy. By 2050, Dubai’s total 100% of the power generation capacity comes from clean energy. Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is the most important clean energy project implemented in Dubai. Dewa will achieve this goal, strengthening Dubai as a smart and sustainable city and status as a top destination to live, work, invest and travel,” Al Tayer said.

considerable interest

“Since its launch, the Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park has attracted significant interest from developers globally, reflecting global investor interest in Dewa’s use of the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model with the private sector Confidence in cooperating with major projects. Through this model, Dewa has attracted approximately AED 40 billion in investment and has achieved the lowest solar price in the world (levelized cost) for five consecutive times, making Dubai the global benchmark for solar prices, ’ he added.

The fourth phase of the solar park project has an installed capacity of 950 megawatts and an investment of 15.78 billion dirhams according to the IPP model. It is the largest single solar thermal power plant in the world. It combines CSP and solar photovoltaic technology. This phase uses three hybrid technologies: 600MW from the Parabolic Basin complex (three units of 200MW each), 100MW from the world’s tallest 262.44m solar power tower (based on molten salt technology), and 250MW from photovoltaic solar panels . After completion, the project will have the world’s largest 15-hour thermal storage capacity to achieve all-weather energy supply. The fourth phase of the project will provide about 320,000 households with clean energy and reduce carbon emissions by 1.6 million tons per year—— trade arab news agency
