[ad_1]

ABU DHABI – The Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, part of M42, is expanding its research efforts to address community health in the UAE. The hospital has more than 200 active studies, 60 of which will start in 2022. These studies focus on a variety of key topics, including digestive disorders, neurological disorders and heart disease.

In line with the Abu Dhabi Department of Health’s efforts to improve holistic healthcare for the people of the UAE, the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is using its research to advance treatment options in the UAE and the GCC region. The hospital is currently conducting three studies on liver health, breast cancer and obesity. These studies were dedicated to the UAE population and used a genome-based approach.

Genome-based research enables the comparison and validation of research findings, which can accelerate the development of new treatments and personalized healthcare options for these diseases. The Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is urging the public to register as participants in future clinical trials to ensure the success of these efforts.

Dr Sawsan Abdel-Razig, Chief Academic Officer, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, said: “The mission of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is to provide world-class care to the UAE community and the wider region. Our research department, together with our multidisciplinary team, Working with universities and other strategic partners to advance healthcare in the community.Through our broader education and research efforts, we are investing in the next generation of clinical nurses and healthcare leaders to develop new treatments, advanced diagnostics and preventive care programmes, which will benefit the people of the UAE for years to come.”

The first of the three studies, conducted in collaboration with another M42 company, the Imperial College London Diabetes Centre, is the first prospective metabolic study of obesity, diabetes and fatty liver disease in the UAE population. In collaboration with Khalifa University, the second study explores obesity and bariatric surgery and is the first genetic study of metabolic disease.

Finally, a pilot study of breast cancer health awareness among women in the UAE aimed to identify disease patterns in the local population and raise awareness of the need for regular mammograms.

All three studies aim to strengthen healthcare in the UAE and were made possible through the participation of numerous study participants. Research programs and studies at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi comply with strict guidelines set by the Abu Dhabi Department of Health. Participants in these research projects will be treated with the highest standards of security and protected by the strictest confidentiality.
