Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: The Cleveland Clinic has opened a new state-of-the-art cancer facility called the Fatima bint Mubarak Center at the Cleveland Clinic in Abu Dhabi.

It continues today with the Fatima bint Mubarak Center which will enable patients to receive world-class cancer care in the UAE. This 205,000-square-foot facility provides cutting-edge, individualized care for each cancer patient’s journey. The Fatima bint Mubarak Center is modeled after the Cleveland Clinic’s Taussig Cancer Center, which is said to be home to the sixth-largest cancer program in the United States us news and world report. The Cleveland Clinic provides comprehensive cancer care across its international locations, enhanced by innovative basic, clinical and translational research. The focus is on providing the most effective treatment to achieve long-term survival and improve the patient’s quality of life. Cleveland Clinic’s global cancer team includes more than 800 physicians, researchers, nurses and technicians who care for thousands of patients each year and provide a wide range of clinical trial opportunities. Clinicians at the Fatima bint Mubarak Center will collaborate with colleagues in the Cleveland Clinic’s top-ranked cancer program in the US to provide multidisciplinary care, precision medicine and cell-based therapies to patients in the Middle East.

Fatima bint Mubarak Center has 32 examination rooms for multidisciplinary cancer consultations and 24 private infusion rooms for intravenous administration. The chemotherapy infusion room is located on the exterior of the building, flooded with natural light and offering views of Al Maryah Island and surrounding islands. In addition, the building has two operating rooms and an area dedicated to women’s oncology services. The Cancer Center provides individualized care throughout each cancer patient’s journey, including sophisticated screening and diagnostic tests, advanced radiation therapy and precise cell therapies. The center houses an expert team of 150 world-class nurses, physicians and radiologists with extensive experience in caring for patients facing the most critical and complex cancer challenges.

The Cleveland Clinic works to increase access to clinical trials, develop new treatments, and focus on untapped areas of research, such as understanding the causes of cancer treatments and managing side effects, and preventing and treating young-onset cancers.

“Cleveland Clinic will bring cancer clinical trials from North America to the Middle East for the first time,” said Stephen Grobmyer, MD, chairman of the Institute of Oncology at the Cleveland Clinic in Abu Dhabi. “This will provide the foundation for patients to have access to the latest and greatest treatments from early to late stages of the disease.”

In addition to clinical services, the facility will provide key support services aimed at reducing the psychological stress of cancer, including offering meditation and spiritual areas of therapy, amenity, and rooftop and surrounding gardens. The 4th Annual Angel Mentoring Program will provide patients with free, confidential, one-on-one advice and support from trained volunteers and cancer survivors. The program will start with breast cancer patients, the most prevalent type of cancer in the UAE, and will be extended to all cancer patients in the future. The integrated lifestyle medicine program will be the first in the region to support cancer patients with the expertise of a lifestyle physician, physical therapist, psychologist and internal nutritionist.

The Abu Dhabi Cancer Center was named in honor of the key leadership role played by Her Excellency Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, President of the National Federation of Women, President of the Supreme Council of Maternal and Childhood, Supreme Chairman of the Family Development Foundation and Mother of Women Nation, involved in the UAE Development of the healthcare industry. The name commemorates a significant gift from the UAE to the Cleveland Clinic, made in honor of HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak.

The Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi Oncology Institute has established a Patient and Family Advisory Committee that includes cancer patients, patients in remission and patient families who provide feedback on how to enhance cancer care. Insights from the committee have been incorporated into the design of the new cancer center to optimize the services and care patients will receive.
