Clinical Professor of Legal Writing and Research – Open Rank Jobs at NYU Abu Dhabi

[ad_1]

describe

NYU Abu Dhabi invites applications for (continuing contract/open rank) faculty appointments as Clinical Professor of Legal Writing and Research in Legal Studies, Arts and Humanities for the 2023-24 academic year beginning in August 2023.

Applicants should possess a postgraduate degree in law with particular interest and expertise in the US and UK legal systems, as well as a successful teaching record in legal writing and research.

The one-year teaching load is 4 courses (usually 2 in the fall and 2 in the spring) plus a capstone thesis proposal and other standard faculty responsibilities. Primary responsibility is to teach legal writing and research.

The NYU Abu Dhabi undergraduate program in legal studies addresses a wide range of philosophical, cultural, social, economic, political, religious, and ethical issues that have proven integral to a deep understanding of both law and a liberal arts education. What is justice? What is the law? How is it organized? Who and what constitute the arbiters of justice? How do historical, cultural, religious and national contexts influence law and justice? Are developing global societies on the path to a just and moral order, and what role can law play? What legal issues arise from global environmental, technological and cybersecurity concerns? Legal studies course design responds in part to the growing globalization of law by considering issues such as the environment, the rule of law, international business, law and the media, human rights, technology and security, and law and ethics. At the same time, recognizing that law maintains a local focus, the course addresses the broad issues raised by globalization by examining specific examples from common law, civil law and other legal systems. The legal studies major is intended as an approach to legal research rooted in the liberal arts tradition. The combination of legal studies and a liberal arts education increases opportunities for interdisciplinary research. The Legal Studies program is housed within the Social Sciences and Arts and Humanities, so it is designed to act as a bridge between these departments. The course aims to develop students’ willingness and ability to act in a truly human way, which requires qualities such as being advocates for individual rights and artisans for the common good.
