Karachi: The United Arab Emirates Consulate in Karachi organized an event on thalassemia awareness on Wednesday with the support of the Afzaal Thalassemia Memorial Foundation, according to a press release issued on Wednesday.
The event was attended by Minister of Information, Traffic and Public Transport of Sindh Province Shajir Inam Memon and Minister of Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah. Bakheet Ateeq Al-Remeithi, Consul General of the United Arab Emirates was also present.
Famous actor Javed Sheikh, industrialist Zubair Motiwala and other citizens of Karachi were also present at the ceremony. At the meeting, Information Minister Memon praised the efforts of the Afzaal Thalassemia Foundation, which he said was serving patients across the province suffering from diseases such as thalassemia. He thanked the UAE government, especially the Consul General, saying that the UAE Consulate conducts welfare work in Sindh.
Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said the awareness campaign was important. He said thalassemia is a deadly disease that spreads rapidly and requires free treatment facilities for patients. Shah said he expressed his gratitude to the UAE government and prayed that Allah Almighty may increase the courage of Afzaal Foundation supporters so that the free treatment facility for thalassemia patients can continue.
UAE Consul General Bakheet Ateeq Al-Remeithi said that Pakistan is our second home and the UAE government will continue to serve the Pakistani people. At the end of the ceremony, the Consul General presented the provincial minister with a commemorative shield.
