Côte d’Ivoire signs agreement with UAE Masdar for 50-70 MW solar power plant

[ad_1]

IMasdar said Friday that Warri Coast has signed an agreement with UAE renewable energy company Masdar to explore the development of a 50-70 megawatt (MW) solar power plant, the latest in a series of deals in Africa one item.

The West African cocoa producer has pledged to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 32% by 2030 and increase the share of renewable energy in its energy mix to more than 40%.

The agreement is part of a master plan to develop a production facility integrating solar, hydropower and biomass.

“Masdar and the Ivorian Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Energy will explore joint development of solar photovoltaic plants in Côte d’Ivoire, starting with a first 50-70 megawatt (MW) plant,” the company said in a statement.

It added that Masdar aims to provide 100 gigawatts of green energy globally by 2030 and sees “significant potential” in this sector in Africa.

In January, it signed an agreement with Ethiopia to jointly develop a 500 MW solar project. It has also signed agreements with Angola, Uganda and Zambia to develop renewable energy projects.
