Leading international design firm Dar Al Handasah Consultants Shair and Partners has launched a research-backed action plan that countries in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) can follow to decarbonize three key sectors – the built environment, transport and Water and energy resources – to achieve net zero goals.
Dar’s recommendations at the recent UN Climate Change Conference in 2022 (Cop27) in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt include:
*In transportation: Accelerate transportation investment and design infrastructure to enable electrified transportation and equitable zero-emission mobility.
*For the built environment: promoting an integrated approach to buildings and infrastructure, delivering high-performance buildings, and prioritizing existing building stock for retrofit.
*In the field of water and energy: support the rollout of renewable microgrids, integrate water cycle management with renewable energy strategies, explore green hydrogen energy solutions, and create a favorable policy and investment environment for energy transition.

Dar also joined the Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity, the Egyptian Green Building Council, the World Economic Forum, the Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action and other stakeholders in promoting sustainable solutions, the top design group said.
It added that Dar will continue to work with its global partners to deliver transformative sustainability solutions to our clients and communities, and to drive research and thought leadership in sustainability across all sectors for COP 28 in Dubai. prepare.
