Abu Dhabi: Doha, Qatar’s capital, and Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), have emerged as the most competitive job markets, with the highest average number of applicants in the week after job listings are posted on professional networking site LinkedIn.
According to a study by online resume creator Resume.io, Abu Dhabi ranks fifth in the league table for a competitive job market, with Istanbul, Turkey and Johannesburg, South Africa also rounding out the top five.
Qatar’s prominence in the rankings can be attributed to hosting the Football World Cup last year.
Since 2010, the country has invested more than $250 billion in preparations, including building nearly 100 new hotels, expanding port and airport facilities and renovating road infrastructure.
LinkedIn’s analysis of job postings shows that certain positions, such as specialty medical positions and freelance digital content work, are driving the UAE’s post-pandemic job market.
The study found that job postings in Doha received an average of 399 applications, Dubai received 282.9 applications and Abu Dhabi received 148.8 applications.
In North America, San Jose, California, emerged as the most competitive job market, while Buenos Aires, Argentina, topped the list in South America. Sydney emerged as Australia’s most competitive job market, with London leading the UK and Toronto taking the crown in Canada. Bangkok, Thailand is firmly positioned as the most competitive job market in Asia.
