Forum News Network—— The United States (United States) Department of Justice issued a written statement earlier this month regarding the discovery of Donald Trump’s luxury resort Mar-a-Lago in Florida.
The document confirms that the United States is investigating allegations that the former president mishandled classified documents.
Redacted documents released Friday (August 26, 2022) provide more details about the evidence that led to the FBI’s unprecedented search at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate on Aug. 8.
The 38-page statement was largely disguised, and “the government is conducting a criminal investigation into the improper deletion and storage of classified information in unauthorized locations and the unlawful concealment or deletion of government records.”
The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) received 15 boxes of documents from Trump’s office in January, the filing said.
“An FBI investigation has determined that a classified document containing National Defense Information (NDI) is one of those materials,” it reads.

The affidavit said the Justice Department believes that “documents containing classified NDIs or other documents that constitute the President’s records that meet current record-keeping requirements” remain in Trump’s home.
He described the material as “unlawfully possessed” and “there are also likely grounds to believe evidence of obstruction will be found.”
The Justice Department has opposed the release of the affidavit, arguing that it could compromise future investigative measures and the identities of witnesses.
But the media demanded the publication of the document on the grounds of “absolute public interest”.
