Dubai announces new fire safety standards

Dubai: The Dubai Civil Defense has announced new fire safety standards and requirements for certain materials, products, accessories and alarms used in construction.

The updates were shared during the recent Iftar banquet held with strategic partners of the authority during Ramadan, in the presence of Lieutenant-General Specialist Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, Director-General of Dubai Civil Defense.

The banquet was held at the Emirates Safety Laboratory, a government entity that is accredited for fire testing and issues certification for fire protection and safety products and systems. Lieutenant General Al Matroushi hosted stakeholders, manufacturers of fire safety products and systems, consultants, developers, contractors and others involved in the field of security and safety.

The meeting aimed to strengthen partnerships with strategic partners, improve communication with officials to transfer expertise, and observe the “qualitative leaps” the lab has made over the years, as well as through the implementation of the latest leadership. and important international standards and norms.

The agency has announced new rules, terms and safety requirements for testing, issuing certificates and registering products in the emirate of Dubai, making it one of the safest and most sustainable cities in the world.

Brigadier General Ali Hassan Al Mutawa, Assistant Director-General for Fire and Rescue, said that the Dubai Civil Defense’s hosting of such meetings is a supportive measure to review the sector’s most important services and updates in the industrial and consulting sectors, supporting construction and Construction in compliance with new requirements and laws for Dubai products and projects.

He explained that Dubai Civil Defense seeks to achieve the strategic objective of making Dubai one of the safest cities, which includes identifying requirements and informing strategic partners who support the application of the most advanced technologies.

“Dubai Civil Defense wishes to strengthen and increase the level of security in the emirate of Dubai through the implementation and application of new requirements, in addition to continuing to offer manufacturers and project owners competitive prices to ensure the provision of international services of the highest quality in the field of construction,” He said.

What products are covered?

During the banquet, the most important new rules, terms and conditions recently updated were introduced to ensure the supply of high-quality products to maintain the construction process. Products with new requirements include: fire doors, cladding materials and facade systems, roofing systems, fire resistant duct systems and systems or pre-insulated, fire resistant cables. In view of the latest technological advancements in wireless detection and alarm systems, Dubai Civil Defense has mandated that all villas built before the implementation of current regulations must have detection and alarm systems installed.

In this regard, updates and services to be provided by the Emirates Safety Laboratory (ESL) were also announced, which include testing and approval of cladding materials and façade systems for projects in Dubai to ensure the sustainable quality of roof systems, ahead of their submission Register your product with Dubai Civil Defense.

Certificate of Conformity

For manufacturers with an accredited certificate from another notified body accredited by the UAE, they will be able to submit their tests and certificates to be assessed by the Emirates Safety Laboratory (ESL) for certification and receive a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) issued by ESL .

For construction projects in Dubai, all fire doors, fire ducts and systems or pre-insulation materials must be assessed at the UAE Safety Laboratory and authorized by the official UAE certification body. ESL will provide these items with a Certificate of Conformity (CoC), which companies need to submit to Dubai Civil Defense for product registration.

Feasibility assessment

As for wireless detection and alarm systems for private and commercial properties in Dubai, they must be assessed and authorized by the UAE Security Lab before being submitted to Dubai Civil Defense for product registration. As part of the certification process, ESL will conduct a feasibility assessment and issue a UAE Certificate of Conformity (COC) for wireless detection and alarm systems to manufacturers who have existing test evidence at other UAE accredited laboratories.

In terms of fire-resistant cables, during the inspection process, Dubai Civil Defense inspectors will remove about 3 meters of fire-resistant cables from the building and submit them to the Emirates Safety Laboratory (ESL) for performance testing and validation.

Dubai Civil Defense and UAE Safety Laboratories will bear the cost of testing the cables from the project site, and if the test fails, the manufacturing company must retest and obtain ESL fire-resistant cables before re-registering. Product in partnership with Dubai Civil Defense to allow it to sell cables to projects in Dubai.
