Art Jameel has been commissioned by the Dubai Arts and Culture Authority to prepare the Jaddaf Playscape Commission Plan, a major new sculpture project for the Jaddaf Waterfront Sculpture Park at Jameel Arts Centre.
Through Dubai Culture’s recently launched new public art project in Dubai, the Jaddaf Playscape committee was awarded through an open call process to be considered by a renowned jury of local and international art professionals, architects and curators; of artists, designers and collectives offers the opportunity every four years to propose and create large-scale, interactive and playful public artworks.
The Jaddaf Playscape committee aims to create a space for creative enjoyment, imagination and play for all ages, with the inaugural committee opening to the public in fall 2023.

Public Art Dubai is a new multi-year initiative led by Dubai Culture that enables Emirati artists to create and install public art. Art Jameel is curatorial partner, commissioning and curating a series of site-specific art installations across the emirate in collaboration with Art Dubai, Tashkeel, Alserkal and Akaas Visual Arts.
The Jaddaf Playscape committee program is part of a series of new artworks from the Art Jameel and Dubai Cultural Partnership under the Dubai Public Art Program focusing on the Jaddaf Waterfront and Dubai Creek areas, providing insight into the site and community – study specific .
Other projects in the series include Creek Experiences, a series of audio walks responding to the “arteries” of Dubai’s history, designed and recorded by artists, writers and poets, accompanied by performances and an expanded digital programme; and Creek Shelters, a series of A sustainable, interactive structure created by artists and architects to provide Creek visitors and explorers with moments of pause and reflection.

The Jaddaf Playscape committee consists of a three-part process:
Open call: practitioners in the UAE submit proposals through an open call process for in-depth consideration by a renowned international jury;
stage 1: A jury shortlists three proposals; the selected applicants are then invited (and supported) to develop and detail their ideas;
Phase 2: The improved detailed proposal is then resubmitted to the jury and a committee is selected to produce it.
The third phase: Production of the work took place in the Jameel Arts Center’s Sculpture Park, which will open to the public in fall 2023.
