Dubai Free Zones Council commits to D33 goals; green economy

The Dubai Free Zones Council (DFZC) has confirmed its commitment to the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33), which aims to rank Dubai among the top three global cities and double the size of its economy within the next decade.

The DFZC, led by Council Chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, discussed its action plan in light of the UAE’s preparations to host the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28) Conference of the Parties at Dubai Expo City, a WAM report said.

Additionally, it outlined its package to simplify services and enhance foreign investor experience. The council also highlighted the importance of attracting Emirati talent to work in Dubai’s free zone companies through coordination with Dubai’s UAE Human Resources Development Council, as well as several other topics related to the free zone’s business sector.

The Council discussed the outcomes of the Free Zone Energy Demand Management Strategy, which aims to reduce the demand for electricity and energy consumption by Free Zone companies for sustainable development and contribute to the realization of Dubai’s leading position and building innovation and environmental friendliness. type vision community.

The strategy paves the way to support the goals of the UAE’s Net Zero Strategic Initiative, which seeks to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, in conjunction with the Year of Sustainable Development and preparations for COP 28.

The strategy aims to reduce the energy and water demand of free zones and companies by 30% by 2030, while providing added value to businesses. The strategy further outlines ways to work with relevant governments to introduce innovative, awareness technologies and processes related to energy demand reduction and sustainability, and to provide resources, tools, programs and policies and agencies to reduce the carbon footprint of free zones.

The Council also explored a proposal to harmonize the nomenclature and classification of services in Dubai Free Zones. This follows the approach taken by the Dubai model, which offers packages that help simplify services, upgrade service channels within the free zone, meet customer needs and expectations and increase their satisfaction.

It discusses the importance of attracting Emirati talent to work for companies in Dubai Free Zones by reviewing initiatives and achievements over the past period. It also affirms the importance of continuing to coordinate with free zone authorities to encourage their companies to employ UAE nationals and benefit from government capabilities and incentives such as the Nafis scheme. The Council stressed the need to support these initiatives and maintain collaboration with Dubai’s workforce and the Emirates Human Resource Development Council to achieve the best results and empower the new generation of Emirati talent across sectors within Dubai Free Zones. — trade arab news agency
