Dubai hosts the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship – Dubai Blog

The Asia Pacific Golf Federation (APGC), Masters and R&A announced that the 12th Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC) will be held from November 3 to 6, 2021 at the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club (Championship). course).

AAC was established in 2009 to further develop amateur golf in the Asia-Pacific region. The winner will receive an invitation to participate in the Masters and Open, while the runner-up will qualify for the Open finals.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 AAC was cancelled. The 2021 Championship will be the first event to be held in the UAE, one of APGC’s 42 member states, and will join many professional and amateur events held in Dubai each year, including the Dubai Desert Classic of the European Tour and the DP World Tour Championship.

Shaikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the UAE Golf Federation, said: “As a member of APGC, we have been a member of AAC for many years. We are very happy to be the first Welcome this prestigious championship to the UAE.”

The Dubai Creek Championships course opened in 1993 and has an 18-hole par 71 layout. It was originally designed by Karl Litten and redesigned by Thomas Bjorn in 2004.

The course has previously hosted the Dubai Desert Classic in 1999 and 2000 and the Dubai Creek Open of the Middle East and North Africa Tour. The 2018 AAC runner-up Rayhan Thomas hit a course record of 61 in 2017. Recently, Dubai Creek hosted the World Amateur Championship Dubai Championship tour last December.

In the 12-year history of AAC, the tournament has become a springboard for some of the world’s top players today, including the two-time AAC champion and the 2021 Masters champion Matsuyama.
