Dubai Humanitarian Gaza Aid: New Air Bridge Sends Medical Supplies to Gaza

Dubai Humanitarian Gaza aid efforts have entered a new phase with the launch of an air bridge designed to move urgent medical and humanitarian supplies towards Gaza.

The operation is being carried out in support of the World Health Organization (WHO), with supplies being transported from Dubai to Al Arish International Airport in Egypt before being moved onwards to Gaza.

The first flight left the Dubai Air Wing earlier this week carrying 11 metric tonnes of essential medicines. Three more flights have since followed with additional medical supplies, tents and fortified nutritional biscuits.

Around 150 tonnes of supplies planned

Dubai Humanitarian said the four flights are part of a larger operation that will facilitate the delivery of approximately 150 tonnes of WHO medical and health supplies to Gaza over the coming weeks.

The supplies were already stored at the WHO Global Logistics Centre hosted by Dubai Humanitarian. Keeping essential items in the centre allows them to be moved quickly when humanitarian needs increase.

What has been sent so far?

  • 11 tonnes of essential medicines were carried on the first flight.
  • Three additional flights followed with more medical supplies.
  • Tents are being included in the shipments to support urgent shelter needs.
  • Fortified biscuits are being sent to help address nutritional needs.
  • Around 150 tonnes of WHO medical and health supplies are expected to be dispatched through the wider operation.
  • The WHO said the latest charter flights involve more than $1.3 million worth of medicines and medical supplies, intended to support around 400,000 people in Gaza.

How the air bridge works?

The aid is not being flown directly into Gaza. Instead, the supplies are transported from Dubai to Al Arish in Egypt, where they can then be moved onwards to Gaza.

This route allows medical supplies stored in Dubai to be brought closer to where they are needed while using an established humanitarian logistics network.

The latest operation also builds on Dubai Humanitarian’s previous support for relief efforts in Gaza. Earlier this year, the organisation helped facilitate the delivery of medical supplies through a three-truck WHO convoy.

Dubai’s role in humanitarian logistics

Dubai Humanitarian has become an important storage and logistics centre for international relief organisations, allowing aid agencies to keep emergency supplies ready for rapid deployment.

For Gaza, that role is particularly important because medical facilities and humanitarian organisations continue to face major needs.

The new Dubai Humanitarian Gaza aid air bridge is expected to continue in the coming weeks, with further flights planned as part of the wider effort to move WHO supplies into Gaza.
