[ad_1]

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, honored the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park’s 900 megawatt (MW) fifth Inauguration of the first phase of the project, the solar park is the largest single-site solar park in Dubai, with a planned installed capacity of 5,000 MW in the world by 2030.

According to reports, based on independent power producer (IPP) models, the total investment in the solar park is AED 50 billion (US$ 13.6 billion), and is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 6.5 million tons per year when fully completed Wow.

The fifth phase will provide approximately 270,000 residences in Dubai with clean energy and reduce carbon emissions by 1.18 million tons per year.

The AED 2 billion project is based on the IPP model and is a partnership between Dewa (60%) and a consortium led by Acwa Power and Gulf Investment Corporation (40%) through Shuaa Energy 3.

Dewa secured the lowest bid of 1.6953 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for phase five, a world record.

It said Dubai Utilities had implemented this phase using the latest solar photovoltaic bifacial technology and single-axis tracking technology to increase energy production and plant efficiency.

Speaking at the launch, Sheikh Mohammed said, “The UAE is at the forefront of global efforts to create a more sustainable future for all humanity by taking concrete actions to transition to renewable energy and combat climate change. 2023, the UAE’s annual Sustainability, and the year we host COP28, we continue to place sustainability at the heart of our development plans and make new strides in shaping a truly green economy.”

“The completion of the fifth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park brings us one step closer to realizing our vision of an economy powered entirely by clean energy,” he added.

Sheikh Mohammed was later briefed by Dewa Managing Director and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer on the various phases of the solar park and the technologies used in the project.

The total capacity of solar projects commissioned at the solar park has reached 2,427 MW from photovoltaic solar panels and concentrated solar power (CSP).

The total capacity of projects under construction in the solar park is 433MW of solar thermal power generation. It added that DEWA has increased the share of clean energy in Dubai’s energy mix to around 16.3 percent of its total installed capacity, which has reached 14,917 MW.

“We are making rapid progress towards achieving the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy, whereby 100% of Dubai’s total electricity generation will come from clean energy by 2050,” said Al Tayer.

“To achieve these goals, we are implementing several projects at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. We commit to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to continue our development projects to realize his ambitious vision for this national project, which adds to the UAE’s success in making steady progress towards a sustainable future for present and future generations,” he added.

Mohammad Abunayyan, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Acwa Power, said: “Today, we are delighted to celebrate another milestone with our long-term partner Dewa as we inaugurate the fifth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar with our partners Gulf Investment Corporation and EPC contractor Shanghai Electric stopped ahead of schedule.”

“Our goals for Shuaa Energy 3 are to meet the highest technical and operational standards every step of the way, set a record for the lowest solar tariff in the world in 2020, and deploy advanced technologies such as bifacial solar panels and autonomous cleaning robots,” he added.

Acwa Power had been involved in previous phases of the Al Maktoum Solar Park, he said. The second phase of the 200MW photovoltaic project developed by Acwa Power was launched in March 2017.

Meanwhile, a consortium led by Dewa and Acwa Power has reportedly formed a project company called Noor Energy 1 to design, build and operate the 950 MW fourth phase Wow.

Ibrahim AlQadhi, CEO of Gulf Investment Corporation, said: “We are delighted to jointly develop renewable energy and infrastructure projects in the UAE. The fifth phase of the solar park, based on the (IPP) model, is considered a pioneering project because it uses State-of-the-art clean power generation solutions, contributing to the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050.”

It is also one of the first projects in the Middle East to use artificial intelligence (AI) as part of an advanced robotic cleaning system to operate and maintain photovoltaic panels, AlQadhi said.

The total area of the fifth phase is about 10 square kilometers, accounting for half of the total area of the third phase of 800MW.
