Completion of Initial Stage of ‘Dubai Horizons’ Initiative by Dubai Municipality and Dubai Civil Aviation Authority to Advance Drone Services

In a significant milestone, Dubai Municipality and the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority have announced the successful completion of the first phase of the pioneering ‘Dubai Horizons’ project. This initiative, designed to establish planning standards for drone routes and dedicated landing zones, represents a crucial step forward in the integration of drone technology in Dubai’s airspace.

Advancing Dubai’s Aerial Landscape

The ‘Dubai Horizons‘ project, a collaborative effort between Dubai Municipality and the Civil Aviation Authority, has successfully laid the groundwork for planning standards in low-altitude airspace and designated airport locations. The strategic alignment with aviation and construction regulations underscores the commitment to advancing Dubai’s capabilities in air transportation.

Building on Excellence: Vision and Objectives: Dubai Municipality

Highlighting the significance of the project, His Excellency Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, emphasized its collaborative nature and the goal of building upon Dubai’s excellence in the air transportation sector. The project not only envisions the creation of drone routes but also explores global applications, aligning with Dubai’s long-term objectives.

Embracing Technological Advancements

Dubai Municipality’s commitment to embracing cutting-edge technologies is evident in the ‘Dubai Horizons’ project. The initiative aims to establish a leading geospatial system, implementing innovative projects that enhance infrastructure readiness and adaptability to contemporary aeronautical mapping technologies. This forward-looking approach seeks to elevate air navigation security and safety standards.

Fostering Investment and Economic Growth

Upon completion, the ‘Dubai Horizons’ project is poised to significantly enhance Dubai’s readiness for drone usage and air delivery services. The establishment of well-defined routes with precision data adhering to international standards is expected to reinforce Dubai’s leadership and competitiveness on a global scale, creating a favorable investment climate.

Leadership Vision: A Global Hub for Drones

Highlighting the broader vision, His Excellency Mohammed Abdullah Ahli, Director General of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, emphasized the project’s alignment with the ambitious goals of the Dubai Government. The project aims to position Dubai as a global hub for the drone industry, creating a dynamic and attractive investment climate to strengthen the emirate’s global competitiveness.

Silicon Oasis: First Phase Success

The first phase, completed in the Dubai Silicon Oasis area, involved a comprehensive study, analysis, and evaluation of existing regulations. Stakeholder meetings determined roles, assessed 3D data, and identified challenges, leading to the creation of 3D maps for planned drone routes and landing locations.

Collaborative Partnerships for a Comprehensive Plan

Dubai Municipality, in collaboration with strategic partners, has signed cooperation agreements and a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a comprehensive plan for geographic data in Dubai. This collaborative effort aims to provide infrastructure data for the drone industry and sector regulation in the emirate.
