Dubai Shopping Festival kicks off Dubai’s 80s campaign


The ongoing Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF), a leading shopping event, has launched dubai 80sa unique pop-up event that invites people to experience nostalgic entertainment in the emirate of the 80s.

Organized by the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), DSF’s new 10-day event at Last Exit Al Khawaneej transports visitors into the visual identity of Dubai in the 80s and early 90s. The event is one of a series of attractions and experiences in the #DubaiDestinations Winter campaign.

The Dubai 80s campaign aims to capture a moment when Dubai was on the cusp of critical change. Not only was the 80s a defining era globally, it was also a decade that raised the profile of Dubai and the UAE on the international map. It was at that time that the country embarked on a journey of transformation, making it a leading global city.

Dubai in the 80s will explore the city’s defining past with a vintage photo gallery showcasing photos of Dubai before it transformed into a cosmopolitan city, photo booths, shows, anime and live performances, vintage arcades and vintage cars, all offering of.

“The campaign aims to create a heart-warming living experience for a turning point decade in Dubai’s history. Dubai 80s invites visitors to look back and reflect on the decade in which the seeds of our current prosperity and growth were sown. Looking back, especially in It’s fascinating that the 80s and early 90s were such a transformative era for Dubai,” said Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail.

“Dubai has grown tremendously in just a few years. The city’s modern skyline, great festivals and significant growth as a tourist destination all started in the 80s, which is why we wanted to highlight this particular era.”

Upon arrival at the pop-up event, visitors will travel back in time, strolling through the front gates of vintage Emirati houses, giving them the experience of entering an 80s neighborhood where spices and old music fill the air.

Visitors will come face-to-face with memorabilia, including 90s cell phones, Swatch watches, Gameboys, old encyclopedias and floppy disks, vintage TVs and retro cassette players, gadgets that defined a generation. Guests can explore a trip down memory lane showcased in a vintage photo gallery, with snapshots by local artists depicting all of Dubai’s past glory before it became the futuristic city it is today.

Visitors can also retrace their childhood memories and explore the comic books and cartoons that defined a generation before Marvel and DC comics made it to the big screen. Relive a time when Dubai had its own superhero fan base, and visitors have the chance to re-live their favorite comic book heroes, watching anime screenings and animated clips from popular films.

They’ll also have the chance to explore the Gaming Arcade, a nostalgic ’90s-themed arcade with vintage arcade machines featuring all-time favorites like Tetris, Mario Kart, Space Invaders, and more. A display of classic cars will evoke memories of the cars of yesteryear. Visitors will also have the chance to win a range of daily prizes.

“It’s not just a pop-up concept, it’s a heart-pounding experience,” he added. Al Khaja explained, “It will resonate with everyone, from Emiratis to residents who have lived here for years. .” .

80’s Dubai will be held at Last Exit Al Khawaneej from December 23rd to January 8th from 4pm to 11pm and entry is free for all.

The 28th edition of the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) runs until 29 January 2023, featuring shopping attractions, innovative events, world-class entertainment and life-changing prizes.
