Dubai Ingenious Smart City Initiatives Pave the Way for Billions in Savings

In a groundbreaking address at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, Mattar Al Tayer, the Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), unveiled it’s ambitious plans for smart infrastructure and self-driving transport. Emphasizing the pivotal role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data, Al Tayer projected substantial savings in the billions of dirhams for the city.

It’s commitment to innovation and technological advancement has positioned it as a global leader in smart systems implementation. Al Tayer highlighted the success of the Dubai Strategy for Self-Driving Transport, aiming to transition a quarter of trips to autonomous modes by 2030. This initiative not only promises significant cost savings of approximately Dh22 billion but also prioritizes safety, efficiency, and sustainability in Dubai’s transport network.

Al Tayer underscored the responsibility of government leaders in shaping future cities that enhance citizens’ well-being and provide opportunities for all. Despite challenges, he stressed the importance of leveraging urban planning and infrastructure development to build smart and sustainable cities. Drawing from Dubai’s experience, Al Tayer revealed that smart infrastructure investments have already yielded substantial economic savings, amounting to Dh290 billion since 2006.

Al Tayer attributed It’s success to the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, emphasizing the strategic integration of advanced technologies and governmental support for innovation. It’s proactive stance towards embracing cutting-edge technologies has positioned it as a leader in implementing advanced transportation solutions, evidenced by the operation of electric autonomous vehicles and the integration of AI and big data in traffic management systems.

Moreover, Its’s pioneering spirit was demonstrated through the world’s first aerial taxi flight trial in 2017, showcasing its commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation in urban mobility.
