Two Gulf nationals have been convicted by the Dubai Misdemeanor Court of transferring funds to a drug dealer to buy heroin.
The court fined the pair Dh10,000 and banned them from making bank transfers without the central bank’s permission for two years.
After police investigation, the department involved in the case determined that the two defendants had used narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
Records showed that the first convicted person transferred Dh2,000, while the second convicted person deposited Dh900 into an account belonging to a drug dealer operating outside the UAE.
Drug dealers texted convicted people the location of drugs buried in the desert on WhatsApp.
Police arrested them with the first accused in possession of a plastic bag containing heroin and the second accused in possession of two plastic bags containing the same substance.
The defendants were taken to the General Directorate of Criminal Evidence, where they were tested and confirmed to have been under the influence of the substances.
They were then handed over to the public prosecution and the courts.
