Duchess of Cambridge welcomes staff and junior players at Wimbledon | Entertainment

[ad_1]

The Duchess of Cambridge captivated Wimbledon staff and teenage players as she competed in the women’s singles final.

The 40-year-old royal, who is a patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), attended the match between Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina and Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur on the Centre Court on Saturday (07/09/22) She won her first Grand Slam title in three sets.

Before the final, Catherine spoke with two junior championship semi-finalists, British Isabel Britton, 14, and Karel Ngunu, 13.

“It was an absolute privilege to meet her, and it was great to have the opportunity to meet such an important person,” Carrell said.

The Duchess also spoke with two Wimbledon staff – Rachel Williams and Dave Tulloch – and thanked them for their outstanding performances during the match.

Catherine told them: “It was an amazing thing to be involved in.”

The royals handed out trophies to the winner and runner-up, but the move sparked controversy as Rybakina was born in Russia and then switched allegiance to Kazakhstan. Both Russian and Belarusian players have been banned from Wimbledon due to the invasion of Ukraine.

Rybakina admitted before the game that it would be “an honour” to meet the Duchess.

The 23-year-old sports star said: “It’s an honour and whether I win or lose I’m going to be very excited for this moment. I think it’s just something to remember, it’s going to be amazing.”

A post on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Kensington Royal Twitter account read: “Beautiful day for a fantastic game.

“Congratulations to both players and to all the unsung heroes who made this game a reality.

@Wimbledon you make us proud every year! (sic)”
