On Sunday afternoon, Alto Vineyards has something for everyone. Especially for young art students in need.
Local musician Candy Foster will host a fundraiser at Parkland College to benefit his Fine Arts Scholarship Fund. The event will feature four live musicians (including Foster) as well as raffles, auctions and refreshments.
“This year we’re competing for three $500 scholarships,” Foster said.
The lineup includes the Tom Grassman Band at 2pm, followed by the Fairchilds, Rehab Gospel Singers, and finally Foster at 5pm.
Participants are encouraged to relax while enjoying the performance.
“We are grateful to our venue (Alto Vineyards) for giving us the venue,” Foster said. “We want people to bring lawn chairs and all that stuff and get together and do a lot of things.”
Donations will help achieve Foster’s goal of providing $1,500 in scholarships to area students interested in careers in the arts.
As a longtime blues musician, Foster has seen firsthand the importance of forging a path in the field in the right way.
“(I want people) to make it work and learn these things the way they should,” Foster said. “I met a lot of people who had to teach themselves how to do things, and some of them turned out really well. But think about what they would be like if they had some training.”
