Edge entity Halcon signs deal to develop multi-sensor unit

[ad_1]

Edge entity Halcon, a regional leader in the design and production of guided weapon systems, has entered into an agreement to develop and qualify the Oerlikon Multi-Sensor Unit (MSU), a remotely controlled, rapidly deployable sensor unit.

The partnership is a collaboration with the Swiss company Rheinmetall Air Defense, a leading manufacturer of state-of-the-art air and air defense systems and a subsidiary of Rheinmetall.

The MSU is part of the Oerlikon Skynex air defense system, which includes Halcon’s Skynight Anti-Rocket, Artillery and Mortar (C-RAM) missile system.

multi-layer approach

Hamad Al Marar, President, Edge Missiles & Weapons, said: “Adequate air defense requires an inclusive, multi-layered approach. Rheinmetall Air Defense, an international leader in the development of air defense systems, fully understands this approach and has developed the advanced Skynex Skynight This is reflected in the air defense system. Halcon was actively involved in the development of the system, designing the Skynight missile and the missile launcher, which provide a critical layer of protection against saturation attacks.

“We are proud to take the next step in our cooperation with Rheinmetall Air Defense, as the development of the MSU will be another significant contribution from Halcon. The signing of this contract marks an important milestone as we continue to break through the boundaries of air defense and find new ways to protect our skies.”

Marco Parisi, Sales Director, Rheinmetall Air Defense, said: “Rheinmetall Air Defense is delighted to be working with Halcon to develop this state-of-the-art sensor system. It demonstrates the commitment of both companies to supply the UAE with leading air defense systems. Combined, the missiles are an ideal solution to protect the UAE’s most critical infrastructure.”

array search radar

The MSU has a 4D active electronically scanned array search radar, covering 360°, capable of automatically classifying detected targets and handing over the resulting trajectory to the most appropriate artillery or missile launcher, either automatically or at the push of a button.

The development and qualification of the MSU will take place in Switzerland. Under a future contract, it will initially be produced in Switzerland and Italy before being localized for production in the UAE. —trade arab news agency
