Emirates Global Aluminum (EGA), the UAE’s largest industrial company outside of oil and gas, has partnered with Veolia’s Recapp to promote aluminum recycling in UAE schools and universities.
The program will start with 12 schools in Abu Dhabi and Dubai close to EGA’s operations. Recapp will manage the deployment of recycling stations within easy reach of students to help increase interest and awareness of recycling among young people.
Recapp by Veolia is a member of the Aluminum Recycling Alliance, which was set up by EGA earlier this year to bring companies together with canmakers, beverage producers and waste management companies to promote aluminum recycling in the UAE.

Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, CEO of EGA, said: “Aluminum is an infinitely recyclable material that is essential to creating a sustainable society. Despite its potential, too much aluminum is thrown away in the UAE, impacting our economy and the environment. We and Recapp by Veolia aim to change this behavior by engaging young people who are most receptive to change and have a stake in our shared future. By fostering a culture of sustainability and environmental stewardship, we empower the next generation to be environmentally responsible leaders and pave the way for a more sustainable circular economy.”
Jérôme Viricel, General Manager of Veolia Near & Middle East Recapp, said: “We are promoting aluminum recycling within local educational institutions, building on our many years of strategic partnerships for responsible waste management. Closing the aluminum recycling loop in the UAE requires multiple solutions, Encouraging the right behavior for consumers while making it simple and rewarding. Together, we will support the nation’s efforts to achieve sustainable development by boosting recycling responses and diverting waste from landfill.”
Recapp, a digital recycling solution for individuals and businesses, currently has around 52,000 users in the UAE. It centers on an app that enables its members to order collection of their recyclables from their location and receive discounts in return on dedicated marketplaces. Last November, Recapp by Veolia launched the UAE’s first B2B digital recycling platform, GoRecapp.com, which enables businesses to deploy recycling bins at their premises.
