men’s health: Congratulations Emily in Paris Season 3! You also just opened The Wealthy Beggar, a new five-star dive bar in London.
Lucien Laviscott: Everything is happening! I feel very happy now. It’s almost the end of the year and I’m super grateful for everything.
Tell us, what can we expect from Alfie this season?
Season 2’s Alfie has a lingering shadow about what he wants. He is not happy. Then Emily Cooper came along and sprinkled unicorn dust all over her life. In season three, the walls come down a little bit. We see a more vulnerable side of Alfie: he stands by. He’s honest, he’s honest with himself, with his thoughts, with his emotions. For better or worse, he laid down his cards. Let’s just say shit hits the fans.
This sounds promising! How would you describe season 3?
I’d say it’s a mess of beauty issues that creates more issues. You are in for a treat. It’s nice to see everyone else shine. You see people in the office more and see what they’re doing. And Kate Walsh, she is phenomenal.

Among the actors, who are you closest to?
It’s a loaded question! I have a relationship with everyone. Obviously I spend a lot of time with Lily. From everyone to the crew to the cast to the people she meets on the street, she has this caring side of her. She and her husband Charlie took on the big sibling role for me and it was so sweet. Then Samuel (Arnold) is my boy and Ashley (Parker) is my girl. The Paul (Foreman) you meet is also in it. Cam (Razat) is France’s biggest rock star. period.
You always speak highly of Lily’s kindness and how she knows everyone’s name on set.
Ten out of ten Lily Collins is Lily Collins.
Your character Alfie is very confident. Is this something that comes naturally to you, or is it something you step in for the role?
I think Alfie’s confidence comes from his authenticity. Everything Alfie says and does comes from a good place, you know? I don’t think he has a cunning, serpentine bone in his body. He wants the best for Emily.
What would you say are the attributes you bring to the series?
I bring a few jokes here and there. Lily worked really hard in that game. During my time there, I did my best to fulfill the storyline of playing Alfie. I think I brought some nice little sparks here and there. Just for a change of mood and a little fun. I brought some jokes to the set—let’s just say it.
Sportsmanship runs in your family. You said you grew up eating clean, and because of that, your taste buds are the most boring. Is this still the case today?
You know what, I’m not going to lie. I can actually spice up my life now if I go to Nando’s. My taste buds have definitely matured. I’m getting better and better in that department.
For me, it’s about eating clean and living well. It’s really a way of life, it’s not even a choice for me. I love, love, love feeling good. I think it all starts with diet, what you put in your body is what you get out at the end of the day. I love waking up and feeling healthy and giving myself the best chance to do the best work I can and to be the best person I can be.
Are you addicted to any French food or treat?
This year I have real croissants. There’s a little bakery across the road that sells these – they’re not even croissants – they’re curly pastries with raisins in them. I don’t know their names, just swirls of raisins. They are absolutely incredible.
Is it worth breaking a diet?
That’s it – it’s not really a diet at all. I really don’t think so. A few hits in the morning won’t hurt anyone.
Do you use any exercise to balance it? Do you have a fitness plan?
One thing I’ve started doing more, especially this year, is stretching. I do love going to the gym and feeling my muscles get ripped left and right. It’s been a long time since I cut my hair. It fills you with confidence. For my mental health, this is something I will always need to do. Stretching has become an important part of my daily routine.
Do you have any other exercises?
I like martial arts, taekwondo, muay thai. I just started doing jiu jitsu and I dislocated my shoulder which wasn’t great but I’ve recovered. But again, even with an injury like this, I do keep my focus on stretching and working my ligaments. Being able to train and repair your muscles – the little things you can do for longevity. Being injured made me realize that you need to take care of different things. Leather isn’t all hell. It’s more structured in that regard.
Besides eating well and being active, are there other things you do on set or between shoots?
People think I’ve been dozing off. It’s a little secret, right? On set, there would be a 15-minute break where they would turn the camera around and say, “Where’s Lucien?” “Lucien? He’s sleeping on the chair.” time. Don’t be in the noise. I think it’s meditation. As part of my personality, I’m very energetic. As I get older, it’s very important to find moments of inner peace and quiet to get to the level I want.
In the new trailer, we see Emily and Alfie talking about work-life balance. What entertainment do you usually have?
I don’t know, I can’t even call it a job. I love storytelling, acting, etc., and honestly, I love everything I do. I read a lot. I play golf. i love my music. I like to go to the country. I hope to climb Mount Kilimanjaro next year. Just call me Mr. Patagonia, why not. Getting out into nature is what it’s all about.
My dad is from Antigua and I managed to move back there. It’s the best decision I’ve ever made. I live on this little island in the Caribbean and I love it. There is a freedom in being able to take the edge off the competition and then jump straight into it.
I think if Covid has highlighted anything, that’s another reason not to wait. If you want to do something, do it. If you want to live somewhere, live there. If you want to work in Paris, work there. When I moved to Antigua, it was like, I don’t want to be in Los Angeles. I don’t need to be in New York or London. I’m trying to figure out where I need to go and figure it out from there. This is where I am now.
you said before that you were a Now type of person, but now that you set these big goals, it looks like you might be looking at your life differently.
I realized I’ve had blindfolds in my life for so long. My career is very important to me. I don’t think I’m able to fall in love because I’m focused on bettering myself and creating a better future for my family. The one thing everyone wants me to do is make me happy and find my happiness. This is what I’m doing. To be selfless, one has to be selfish. I wouldn’t say I’m selfish because that’s not in my nature, but I’m doing what I want to do for myself right now. And all goes well.
What factors do you think contribute to Alfie’s happiness?
Emily opens Alfie’s eyes to the realization that he deserves happiness and that he can find it in everything around him. It may be tough, but he’s on his way to the light. Alfie has love in his heart and he will be fine in the end.
