Qantas and Emirates announced that they will extend their cornerstone partnership for another five years, which means that customers and frequent flyers of the two airlines will have access to a wide-ranging joint network and millions of award seats. The agreement was signed by Emirates President Tim Clark and Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce at the International Air Transport Association Annual General Meeting in Boston.
The two airlines have now obtained regulatory approval to conduct joint operations before March 2023. Qantas and Emirates will seek reauthorization from relevant regulators (including the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) to continue the core elements of the collaboration, including coordinated pricing, timetable sales and travel marketing on routes approved before 2028. The deal includes the option to renew for another five years after that.
Together, the two airlines provide frequent flyers with millions of award seats to use their Qantas points or Skywards miles to travel to more than 100 destinations, which have been hoarding throughout the pandemic.
For Emirates customers, the transaction provides access to more than 55 Australian destinations that Emirates does not fly to, while Qantas customers can fly Emirates to Dubai and travel to more than 50 in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa Cities, and Qantas does not fly to these destinations.
As Qantas and Emirates recover from the impact of COVID-19 on their respective businesses, the partnership will continue to bring financial benefits to both airlines.
