Emirates invests over $350 million in next-generation in-flight entertainment system for new A350 fleet

As part of an ongoing effort to ensure customers ‘fly better’, Emirates has selected the new Thales AVANT Up system for its fleet of Airbus A350 aircraft due for delivery in 2024.

With an investment of more than $350 million, the airline’s 50-strong A350 fleet will be equipped with next-generation in-flight entertainment solutions, delivering unforgettable movies and personalized passenger experiences.

The game-changing technology in the Thales AVANT Up system features an Optiq 4k QLED HDR display – the only aircraft display to use Samsung’s QLED technology, immersing viewers in over 1 billion colours. This rich display capability provides the perfect medium for Emirates’ unrivaled ice inflight entertainment offering, which offers more than 5,000 channels of multilingual content, including live TV, the latest box office movies, TV shows and music, as well as the world’s first in-flight entertainment. Thales’ new system will also provide an enhanced “live” TV solution, offering a wider choice of live TV and news in the highest definition at 40,000 feet.

Emirates customers can also look forward to enhanced passenger connectivity with Optiq – the industry’s first smart display offering two Bluetooth connections, built-in Wi-Fi, allowing passengers to pair multiple devices, including phones, tablets, headsets and even game controllers, It also supports USB-C up to 60W for fast charging of personal devices.

To further enrich passenger engagement, Emirates has selected a variety of AVANT Up digital services, including highly integrated personalization features, expanded Personal Electronic Device (PED) capabilities and user interface enhancements that also enable visually impaired passengers Get an immersive experience.

Emirates was also the first airline in the world to choose Thales Pulse, a patented power management technology that ensures charging performance is not compromised no matter how many users are charging their devices at the same time.

To reflect a shared vision to innovate and shape the future inflight experience, Emirates and Thales will also continue to collaborate on projects through flydubai X-Lab, an aviation-specific incubator.
