ABU DHABI, 9th March, 2023 (WAM) — The Abu Dhabi Arabic Center, ALC, a division of the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi DCT, has announced the agenda for National Reading Month 2023 . The initiative aims to support the sustainable efforts of UAE institutions and entities to build a culture of reading in the community and introduce new excellence in reading programmes.
Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the ALC, said: “Over the years, National Reading Month has strengthened the government’s efforts to promote reading in the UAE community and help community members develop a relationship with reading. It is a way of achieving success in various fields.”
“Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Center has always strived to be an active partner in the national education community’s efforts and provide the necessary tools to successfully accomplish this mission,” he added. “With this in mind, the Center works tirelessly each year to develop an event-packed agenda to cater to all groups throughout ‘Reading Month’, all with the aim of increasing their knowledge and promoting reading as an ingrained concept and habit in them .soul.”
The ALC’s National Reading Month 2023 agenda includes a series of talks, workshops and interactive events for adults and children. The Creative Writing program is designed to help authors hone their Arabic creative writing skills. Additionally, the Kalima Reading Club is organizing a series of events, meetings and reading programs to discuss selected books, while the Qasr Al Watan Library will be open for tours.
ALC’s events cater to all segments of the public throughout Reading Month, offering a variety of interactive activities for all ages. The events will take place over two weekends at Abu Dhabi’s Umm Al Emarat Park and Al Qana development. Activities include a children’s reading corner, educational workshops, Arabic calligraphy workshops and a music corner. Also on the agenda are musical performances and poetry evenings to coincide with World Poetry Day, as well as the ‘Khazanat Al Kutub’ event, which will sell books on literature, art and stories for children and youth at promotional prices.
Abu Dhabi Arabic Center will also celebrate all UN-sanctioned international events, which will take place during the month of reading. This included a symposium on International Women’s Day entitled “Women Pioneers in Literature” and a Poetry Night in honor of World Poetry Day, featuring poets and writers.
