Emirates News Agency – Abu Dhabi Center for Asylum and Humanitarian Care launches ambassador initiative

ABU DHABI, 30th March, 2023 (WAM) — Higher education students will strengthen Abu Dhabi’s social sector in the fight against violence and abuse, according to a new initiative launched by the Abu Dhabi Center for Asylum and Humanitarian Care, Ewaa preventive effect.

Speaking at a launch ceremony attended by Minister of State and President of Zayed University Noura bint Mohammed Al Kaabi and Sarah Shuhail, Ewaa Director General, Ewaa said it would work with Abu Dhabi’s higher education institutions “to create awareness and support in the field of violence and abuse.” Knowledge exchange opens up new horizons”.

In the long run, the program aims to raise public awareness by training students, promote Ewaa services and increase reporting of cases of violence and abuse. It will also open up new communication channels with higher education institutions to exchange best practice.

Committed to providing diverse capacity building and training opportunities, Ambassador Ewaa will organize workshops, courses and lectures on domestic violence, child abuse and human trafficking.

The Ewaa Ambassador Program sets precise standards for targeted students, including demonstrating a passion for advancing the community, as well as presentation and communication skills. They must be enrolled in majors related to psychology, social services and communication studies.

Selected students are encouraged to undertake educational programs throughout their years of study and future careers.

Under the forthcoming agreement for the Ewaa Ambassador Programme, higher education institutions will nominate students to join the program and act as ambassadors on the subject of violence and abuse.

The plan ensures that there is sufficient capacity to establish effective assessments to inform enhancements and updates.

This year, Zayed University was selected to begin training students to raise awareness. Events are currently taking place on campus.

Al Kaabi said: “Through our partnership with the Abu Dhabi Center for Asylum and Humanitarian Care and the Ewaa Ambassador initiative, we aim to develop future leaders who understand the importance of social responsibility and play an active role in raising awareness of social responsibility .the negative impact of violence and abuse. Our partnership with the Center supports our leadership’s efforts to guarantee the right of all people to live in dignity and security.”

For her part, Shuhail said: “Combating violence and abuse in all its forms is everyone’s responsibility. Training higher education students lays the foundation for understanding their needs and their enormous potential inspires our efforts to invest in a new generation of awareness ambassadors , thought leaders and experts.”
