Emirates News Agency – AJP Tour 2023: UAE National Jiu-Jitsu Championship kicks off tomorrow in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, 6th July, 2023 (WAM) — The 2023 AJP Tour UAE National Jiu-Jitsu Championship kicks off tomorrow at Mubadala Arena, Abu Dhabi, with numbers of clubs and academies from around the world. Hundreds of athletes will participate. The registration process saw a surge in demand last week, with the number of nationalities participating in each category reaching 64, with the UAE, Colombia and Brazil leading the way.

Organized by the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF) in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Professional Association (AJP), the three-day championship will feature exciting competitions in the Kids, Babies and Youth categories on the first day. Day two will see the Youth, Juniors and Masters categories, while the third and final day will see intense competition between the amateur and professional divisions.

Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, said: “The UAE National Championships on the AJP circuit will be important to improve the athletes’ preparations for the various international competitions in the coming months, especially in Abu Dhabi. Jiu-Jitsu competition) plays a vital role. The World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championships are scheduled for early November.

“Since this tournament offers 1,000-point AJP ranking for the first place winner, athletes from various countries are keen to participate in order to improve their standings and improve their annual ranking. The highest-ranked players from various countries will have the opportunity to receive Invitation to the World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championships in Abu Dhabi to gain an advantage in the group stage and have a chance to win the best player award in their respective category or continent. Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club Jiu-Jitsu secretary Taha Abdul Sattar said the team was ready to compete. “We have over 200 male and female players competing in the AJP Tour UAE National Jiu-Jitsu Championships, most of them under the age of 18. Our aim, as always, is to make significant progress and win medals in several different categories.”

“Athletes in our under-18 category currently dominate the club’s overall rankings in the AJP rankings. This championship presents a unique opportunity to improve our athletes’ standings and solidify our leading position,” he added.

Palms Sports technical program manager and Team 777 head coach Pedro Damasceno said he’s optimistic his team will shine in the tournament. “We have as many as 73 athletes, both boys and girls, going on the ring next week. This time, we are focusing more on the younger fighters and most of the participants are in the kids, teens and babies categories. I am sure they will do their best for.

“Our athletes are improving with each game and they are determined to give their all on the field. This is evident in their willingness to participate in the event despite the school holidays. Last time, they hosted the challenge in Abu Dhabi Having finished second at the Jiu-Jitsu Festival, the team’s goal this time around is to replicate their winning performance.”

Ms Medya Almeraikhi, mother of Mubarak Almeraikhi and Ahmed Almeraikhi who participated in the tournament, said her children were well prepared for the competition.

“Ahmed and Mubarak train three days a week in Jiu-Jitsu, and they are very confident of winning medals. They have participated in many Jiu-Jitsu events organized by the federation and won multiple medals. I hope they can do the same this time.” Repeat the winning performance.”

“The reason we choose Jiu-Jitsu for our children is that it can make them mentally and physically strong. I am delighted that our athletes performed well at the World Forum and made the UAE proud. I hope my sons will one day And also get into the national team and win medals for the country.”
