ABU DHABI, 11th July, 2023 (WAM) — The Office of the Chairman of COP28 and the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies, ECSSR, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) detailing ECSSR’s activities and A holistic approach to climate change education. As part of the theme of global climate education, the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) aims to coordinate global climate education and expand youth efforts.
The MoU with ECSSR forms the basis for the center’s green and blue zone events, exhibits, panel discussions and other educational materials aimed at raising awareness of climate change, sustainable development and global action. ECSR will create digital assets such as special short films, video collections and audiobooks during COP28 to simplify education about climate change.
Ambassador Majid Al Suwaidi, Director-General and Special Representative of COP28, emphasized the need for collective action, saying: “COP28 and the ECSR recognize the critical importance of working together to tackle climate change and raise awareness for a sustainable future. Through this Working together, we aim to unlock transformational potential by leveraging expertise, fostering dialogue and driving sustainable development.”
Dr. Sultan Al Nuaimi, Director General of ECSSR, welcomed the signing of the MoU and said that both entities will work towards creating a better world for all.
Dr Al Nuaimi said: “This partnership clearly demonstrates ECSSR’s commitment to achieving its strategic goals, which aim to strengthen partnerships and exchange expertise in various fields; in particular sustainable development and climate action, which will Helps keep pace with the UAE’s ambitious plans and aspirations.” .
Over the years, ECSSR has conducted in-depth analysis of political, economic, social, cultural, environmental and health developments at local, regional and global levels. Focused on addressing issues of policy and interest, ECSR actively contributes to the sustainable development goals and growing strategic significance of the UAE and the Arab Gulf region.
The Center’s comprehensive and highly relevant reports provide policymakers with valuable insights and support.
COP28 will mark an important milestone for the world to assess progress on the Paris Agreement. The first Global Stocktake (GST) will provide a comprehensive assessment of the progress made since the adoption of the Paris Agreement. The assessment will help coordinate climate action efforts and identify measures needed to close progress gaps.
