ABU DHABI, 5th October, 2022 (WAM) — Department of Culture and Tourism – DCT Abu Dhabi Announced that it is now accepting nominations for the 2023 edition of its Urban Treasures programme, which recognises historic and socially significant businesses in Abu Dhabi.
Calls for nominations will open from 3-31 October, with winners announced in May 2023, when 15 new institutions will be named key elements of the emirate’s vibrant urban fabric.
Now in its second year, the annual Urban Treasures program honors local businesses such as cafes, restaurants, bakeries, shops, tailors, fabric stores, perfumers, jewelers, frame shops and more. Winners will receive a range of benefits, including a branding kit to highlight their Urban Treasure title.
Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “Abu Dhabi is home to a wealth of economic, social and cultural treasures. Our Urban Treasures programme aims to highlight these and help ensure the continued prosperity of historic businesses that are part of our urban culture. , while also inviting new clients to discover them. Through this initiative, we ensure that these valuable places are recognized as part of our local culture and identity, celebrated for their success, and protected for future generations.”
In line with the emirate’s broader strategic goals, the Urban Treasures initiative will help visitors find authentic and “off the beaten track” experiences and reconnect residents with local businesses. Winners can also look forward to enhanced publicity and promotions targeting residents and tourists, thereby increasing brand awareness and profitability.
